Kerikeri

Right next door to Kauri Park Motel is the legendary Makana Chocolate Factory & Café and directly across the road is the Packhouse Market which operates every Saturday and Sunday selling fresh local produce and artisan food from across the region.

The Kerikeri CBD is a five minute drive or an easy, flat 15 minute walk. There you’ll find a wealth of cafes, restaurants and shops. There are also lots of art studios, award winning wineries and renowned golf courses within easy reach.

From our place it’s just a 10 minute drive to the historic Stone Store Basin where you can see the Stone Store and Kemp House, New Zealand’s oldest surviving buildings. You’ll also see the ancient Pear Tree planted in 1819, it’s the oldest specimen of its kind in New Zealand.

From the basin you can head over the footbridge to Rewa’s Village, a replica Maori Village, or follow the river to see several waterfalls including the stunning Rainbow Falls.

If you like Bush Walks then Puketi Forest, where you can see giant kauri trees, is just a 20 minute drive from the motel. There are raised walks through the bush and some are wheelchair accessible.
